This skillfully hand-crafted 13th century helm
gets its name "Camail" from the term "curtain-mail" a protective
curtain of chainmail hung from the helm draping around the neck
to the shoulders. Examples of this style helm may be seen in
church brass castings. English examples include that of Sir John
de Argentine, 1360, Horsheath Church, Cambridge and of Sir John
de Cobham, 1375, Cobham, Kent. Historically a plate gorget was
worn with this helm along with chainmail body armour for extra
protection. This fully wearable historical life size helm is
made of 18 gauge steel.
