This sword is a good example of the type of sword that is generally
referred to by historians as a "Knightly Cruciform",
for the simple reason that the hilt resembles a Christian cross.
This was no accident, for the European knight's first duty was
to his God. Before he was knighted he would kneel all night long
with his sword hilt up and pray for his worthiness as a knight.
It was also common for a knight to pray in the same manner for
strength of arms in a battle or when taking a knightly oath. The
original sword is housed at the New York Metropolitan Museum.
This high carbon, well-balanced slashing sword features a long,
fullered ricasso.
