In the History Museum in Tralee, Ireland, there is an exhibit that shows this sword being used by an Irish/Norman Knight. Tralee, as well as Gallaway, was heavily settled by the Normans. This sword is a good example of the type of weapon common during that period. The somewhat flat blade is slightly oval in cross-section and can deliver a good shearing cut, yet still has a fine stabbing point. The steel pommel is quite thick and counterbalances the sword nicely. The guard is steel and the grip is wood wrapped in twisted steel wire. Scabbard with steel throat and tip. Made from high carbon steel. Overall: 40" MR1506 - Sword of Tralee for |
